Love Vigilantes is the first track of the album Low-Life, by New Order. It has been covered by Iron & Wine.

The song was in memory of those who died in the Falkland War, a war that happened recently, and happened in Argentina, ("land of the sun" it has a sun emblem on it's flag) The man gets his leave, and goes back to the UK where he finds his wive crying over a telegram saying that he died. Although at first this would seem like an error, but the verse "my convictions would not lie" shows that he was actually convicted by the Argentinians, and failing to disown the US, was martyred for his country, and is a ghost.

The song is post-punk, and considered a teaser to the album, making the buyer think that he/she has bought a weird post-punk album, until he/she is blown away by the non-punkish synths of The Perfect Kiss.

Lyrics

Oh, I've just come from the land of the sun
From a war that must be won in the name of truth
With our soldiers so brave your freedom we will save
With our rifles and grenades and some help from God

I want to see my family
My wife and child are waiting for me
I've got to go home
I've been so alone, you see

You just can't believe the joy I did receive
When I finally got my leave and I was going home
Oh, I flew through the sky, my convictions could not lie
For my country I would die, and I will see it soon

I want to see my family
My wife and child are waiting for me
I've got to go home
I've been so alone, you see

When I walked through the door my wife she lay upon the floor
And with tears her eyes did soar, I did not know why
Then I looked into her hand and I saw the telegram
Said that I was a brave, brave man, but that I was dead

I want to see my family
My wife and child are waiting for me
I've got to go home
I've been so alone, you see

I want to see my family
My wife and child are waiting for me
I've got to go home
I've been so alone, you see
